Odisha Vastram is currently in its pre-launch phase. This policy is published in advance so sellers, customers and partners can see exactly how the marketplace will operate. It becomes binding when marketplace transactions begin; the published version at that date governs.

Odisha Vastram is a curated marketplace for authentic handloom, handicraft and artisan products. The lists below define what cannot be sold. Listings are screened at approval, and violations attract penalties up to immediate suspension under the Seller Terms.

1. Strictly prohibited

  • Counterfeit or replica products of any brand, and unauthorised copies of another artisan’s registered designs.
  • False craft claims — powerloom products sold as handloom, screen prints sold as hand-painted Pattachitra, machine embroidery sold as handwork.
  • Unauthorised Geographical Indication claims — GI names (e.g. Sambalpuri, Kotpad, Pipili appliqué) may be used only with authorised-user documentation.
  • Products using protected wildlife material — ivory, certain shells, feathers of protected species, or any material restricted under the Wild Life (Protection) Act.
  • Items using celebrity images, brand logos or copyrighted artwork without licence.
  • Weapons, hazardous chemicals, drugs, tobacco, alcohol or any item illegal to trade in India.

2. Out of scope for this marketplace

  • Mass-manufactured goods with no artisanal character (generic electronics, plastic commodity goods, imported reseller stock).
  • Perishable foods (a curated non-perishable artisanal foods category may open later with its own standards).
  • Second-hand or used goods.
  • Digital products and services.

3. Conditionally allowed

  • Blended or semi-mechanised products — allowed only with honest disclosure (e.g. “mill-spun yarn, handwoven”).
  • Products containing precious metals — allowed with purity disclosure (and hallmarking where the law requires it, e.g. silver filigree jewellery).
  • Children’s items — must meet applicable safety norms.

4. Enforcement

  • Every listing passes moderation before going live; image and text screening also runs automatically.
  • Verified counterfeit or false-craft listings: penalty (₹1,000 for counterfeit), listing removal, and immediate suspension review.
  • Customers and sellers can report suspect listings to support@odishavastram.com; reports are investigated within 5 business days.
