Centuries of craft deserve modern infrastructure
Odisha’s looms and workshops produce some of the finest textiles and crafts in the world — Sambalpuri ikat that takes weeks to tie and dye, Pattachitra painted with brushes of mouse hair, Dhokra cast by a 4,000-year-old technique. What the makers have never had is commerce that treats them fairly. We are building it.
The problem is not demand. It is the route to it.
There is real, growing demand for authentic handcrafted products — in Indian cities and abroad. Yet the people who make them remain dependent on middlemen who set prices, exhibitions that happen twice a year, and payment cycles that stretch into months. The large marketplaces were not built for a weaver in Bargarh or a co-operative society in Pipili: they assume digital fluency, professional cataloguing and the ability to absorb fraudulent returns.
Odisha Vastram is designed from the opposite direction. It is a managed marketplace: sellers do what they are best at — making, packaging, dispatching — and the platform does everything else: customers, payments, logistics, support and compliance. Onboarding is human, in Odia, Hindi or English. Disputes are decided on evidence, not call-centre attrition. Earnings reach sellers’ own bank accounts on a regular, published cycle.
We are deliberately in a pre-launch phase: acquiring and onboarding sellers properly before opening to customers. A marketplace is only as trustworthy as its supply — so we are building the supply first.
Four phases, no shortcuts
- 01
Now — Seller acquisition
Registering and verifying weavers, artisans, societies, SHGs, manufacturers and brands. Every seller gets a Relationship Manager and unhurried onboarding before launch.
- 02
Next — Curated catalogue
Listing the first products with per-craft photography and description standards, so the marketplace opens with a catalogue worthy of the work in it.
- 03
Then — Marketplace launch
The storefront opens to customers across India: free delivery, verified authenticity, evidence-based dispute handling, and reliable settlements to sellers from day one.
- 04
Beyond — Wider horizons
From Odisha’s handlooms to handicrafts, home décor and artisan lifestyle products from across India — the same trust architecture, more makers, larger markets.
Who is behind this
Odisha Vastram is a unit of BYSP INTERNET SERVICES LLP, a registered Indian limited liability partnership headquartered in Odisha. The company is recognised as a startup by DPIIT under the Startup India programme and by Startup Odisha.
