Authenticity & Quality Policy
Published in advance — takes effect at marketplace launch · Last updated: 11 June 2026 · Issued by BYSP INTERNET SERVICES LLP for Odisha Vastram
Odisha Vastram is currently in its pre-launch phase. This policy is published in advance so sellers, customers and partners can see exactly how the marketplace will operate. It becomes binding when marketplace transactions begin; the published version at that date governs.
“Authentic” is the most abused word in craft commerce. This policy defines what it means on Odisha Vastram, and the specific mechanisms that back the claim.
1. Verified makers, not anonymous stock
- Every seller completes identity, business and bank verification against official records before listing — individuals, societies, SHGs and companies alike.
- Products carry their maker’s or seller entity’s name. Where the seller is a society or group, the artisan can be credited on the listing.
- GI-tagged crafts (such as Sambalpuri textiles or Cuttack tarakasi) may carry GI claims only with authorised-user documentation.
2. Honest listings
- Listings must use original photographs of the actual product and disclose materials and technique truthfully — handloom means handloom; hand-painted means hand-painted.
- Every listing is reviewed by a human moderator against category standards before going live.
- Natural variation in handwork is described as such, so customers know the difference between handcraft character and a defect.
3. Evidence at the moment of dispatch
Every order is packed on camera: a continuous packaging video shows the actual product — its colour, design and condition — before sealing. This protects customers (what was packed is documented) and makers (false claims are rejected on evidence).
4. When authenticity fails
- A product significantly different from its listing is a valid return reason with full refund.
- Confirmed counterfeit or false-craft claims trigger seller penalties and suspension review — and removal of every affected listing.
- Repeat quality issues feed a seller performance score that gates visibility and, ultimately, participation.
